The best things that happened in India in the past decade
The first thing that comes to mind where india had a boom is the education sector. A no. of new technical education (engineering and polytechnic), law, humanities colleges have been opened in the last 10 yrs. The no. of IITs have increased from 7 to 14 in the year 2008/09 through which quality of education is also bound to improve. There are now more than 503 including IITs, NITs, IIITs, state universities and private colleges which are  well established and recognized in india.

E-Learning - The effort taken by the Indian government in collaboration with the IITs to undertake the NPTEL project through which a non IIT student can take video lectures sitting at home of the curriculum taught there in class, which will go a long way in reducing the gap of quality of education at an non IIT institute.
The no. of Indian students enrolling for the online courses provided by EDX and COURSERA is also increasing day by day. The portals provide the classroom notes of the best universities in the world including MIT Massachhusets, Harvard, Princeton university and others. The students take up the courses earn certificates from foreign universities which plays a big role in getting a making up a good resume to get a valuable job

Women in education Sector- the no. of women students have increased on a sharp scale in various fields of education, may it be engineering or humanities or law. Also the no. of women opting for higher education is also increasing. Reason behind that is awareness among women about value of higher education  and also the no. of scholarships given by government to women candidates to pursue higher education or carry out research. The cost of gate Form for female candidates is Rs. 0, also the fee for IIT-JEE form is half of that for male candidates. Educated women feel independent and can be sole breadwinner for the family.

IT Revolution  – Internet has revolutionized the thinking of Indian society. Social networking sites like Facebook, Linkdin, Google+, Skype allow people to communicate through texts, chats, voice messages, video conferencing for various purposes, may it be business, education or relationships. IP telephony and IP video conferencing has changed the prospect of communication.
High speeds of internet through the Broadband 10/100 mbps are available now, which wasn’t before 2003.
The increasing no. of Mobile phones, keeps everyone updated and connected. It is estimated by 2020 the no. of mobile phones will outnumber the no. of people in india.

E-governance applications have been built up for the use of common public to communicate with a government agencies, starting with booking of railway tickets, online passport services, Mnrega portal to check out who all have got the job under the scheme and the openings there etc.

ACTs - The consumer protections act 2005 aims to provide redressal and justice to consumers of any products. This act is a modified version of the 1986 act, by building a nice gui  web based the consumer in india has become more vigilant about his right as a consumer.
The RTI Act 2005 has gone along way in providing transparency of work in any organization. Anybody who has a query about the organization has the right to ask, and he will get a reply within 48 hrs.

Winning Oscars- it was in 2009,first time in the history of india, that Indian film slumdog millionaire won  Oscars for best movie and best music. It was the proudest moment for indian cinema. The movie was declared ‘the best feel-good movie of the decade’.though before 2009 many Indian films including ‘Lagaan ‘ (2001) got nominated for Oscars but never won one. Since then there has been significant improvements in the cinematography, music, lyrics etc, that is, all it takes to win Oscar.

Olympics -  6 olympic medals silver and bronze were won at the 2012 London Olympics, greatest no. so far in all Olympics. Before 2012, in Bejing 2008 olympics only 1 gold and 2 bronze medals were won.
India hosted the Common Wealth games  first time in history and stood second only after Australia in the overall medal tally with 38 gold medals.
In Asian games held at guanzo,india 14 gold medals,17 silever and 33 bronze medals were won,highest in Indian history so far.
